Alteration to Property

 

Alterations and Improvements to Property

It is the Association's Policy to support residents who may wish to carry out improvements, as part of its overall policy of maintaining its houses and estates to the highest standard.

Permission

Tenants must apply for permission to carry out any alterations and the Association has an "Alteration to Property Application Form" to assist residents in making applications .

Installations

The length of time between the installation of the improvement and the end of tenancy will affect any compensation. Further details are available please click here.

Compensation

If you are a tenant you may be eligible for a compensation payment at the end of your tenancy. Provided written permission was obtained from the Association, compensation can be claimed for the following installations.

  • Bath or shower
  • Wash hand basin
  • Toilet
  • Kitchen Sink
  • Storage cupboards in bathroom or kitchen and work surfaces for food preparation
  • Space or water heating
  • Thermostatic radiator valves
  • Insulation of pipes, water tank or cylinder
  • Loft insulation
  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Draught proofing of external doors or windows
  • Double glazing or other window replacement or secondary glazing
  • Rewiring or the provision of power and lighting or other electrical fittings
  • Security measures, excluding burglar alarm systems
  • Other types of improvement will be considered on an individual basis
